CASE STUDY: Mr Ankur recently joined a growing small manufacturing unit as a Purchase Manager. Till now there has been no position as that of Purchase Manager and no standard procedure for acquiring materials. He has the major responsibility for locating suitable sources of supply and for negotiating prices. Apart from this, he has also been asked to look into the material handling function with the objective of improving production efficiency. After understanding of different principles of Material Handling, he identifies that if gradually if the manufacturing unit is moved from manual to mechanized handling equipment, it would lower the cost in long run.
